Caring for your ALBA Jewellery
Share
Over time jewellery can tarnish; this is a natural process caused by the reaction of the outer layer of metal to chemicals, especially sulphur, in the air around us. The presence of moisture in the air accelerates this process. Some people like the look of this, but if you don’t, there are ways of restoring the sparkle of your pieces - and ways of slowing down or avoiding the tarnish in the first place:
*Avoid contact with sprays, lotions and other chemicals.
*Remove jewellery before bathing, showering and especially before swimming in chlorinated water.
*Store your jewellery in an airtight box out of sunlight - adding a silica bag or two can help with keeping the moisture out.
*Oils on our skin can actually help ward off tarnish - so wear your jewellery freely!
*Clean your jewellery regularly with warm soap water and you can restore the shine and sparkle with a polish with a soft silver cloth.
*If it has got particularly badly tarnished, then give it a little soak in a bicarbonate of soda ( 2 tbsp) and white vinegar ( half a cup ) bath for a couple of hours or so, then wash clean.
If your piece has been damaged - caught on something for example, please feel free to send me a picture, and if I can, I will repair it either for free or a nominal cost, depending on the time it will involve. Likewise, if you lose one of a pair of earrings I am happy to make you another - so that you can continue to wear and enjoy your ALBA Jewellery.
Lets’s avoid adding to those piles of pieces most people have tucked away in their drawers!
